Pixel clock

The pixel clock can only be adjusted in steps.

Note the bandwidth requirements for bit depth greater than 8 bits per pixel.

It is recommended to use packed color formats in 10 bit mode with high pixel clocks.

With a pixel clock of 320 MHz, image artifacts may occur on the left image that are caused by the sensor.

USB 3 uEye CP Rev. 2 only: Depending on the sensor, the minimum exposure time cannot be set with the maximum pixel clock.

Gain

The master gain consists of analog gain levels and digital intermediate levels in the sensor.

Trigger

The sensor achieves the same frame rate in trigger mode like in freerun mode. While the new image is exposed, the previous image is read-out and transferred.

The maximum frame rate in triggered mode depends on the frame rate control.

Bit depth

The sensor always runs in 10 bit mode. Internally, the sensor operates with 11 bits. When compressing to 10 bits as well as scaling the working are (about 1500 values within the possible 2048) the histogram shows slight irregularities in the frequencies of values.

Black level

Automatic black level correction is always enabled if FPN correction is active. If the FPN correction is disabled you can set a manual offset for the black level correction.

The sensor has no black pixels for generating a black level reference. An electronic black level – generated by the sensor – can be displayed on the first line. This black level is used for the internal automatic black level correction. If you use a manual black level, the values of the electronic black level must be transformed with Out = (In - 256 - manual_black_level)*(2/3).

The black level increases with increasing sensor temperature and exposure times. For these reasons, the maximum exposure time is limited. In the color version, color shifts occur when using RGB gain.

Sensor source gain

For short exposure times (less than 10 ms), the sensor offers some more dynamic range. Here, you can set the analog sensor source gain to below 1.0x by using negative values. For this purpose, deactivate the analog gain boost if applicable and do not use the master gain. The result offers more dynamic and a better signal to noise ratio (SNR).

The blacklevel increases for very long exposure times and /or high camera temperatures. If you correct the blacklevel using the blacklevel offset, the white balance may not be reached. In this case the pixel saturation is visible. To avoid this, the sensor source gain should be set to a small positive value.

In combination with a master gain of 1.0x and deactivated gain boost, a low sensor source gain causes that the pixel saturation becomes visible. The result is a fixed pattern in bright image areas and additionally a vertical stripe pattern is visible. The full pixel saturation of 255 will not be reached at 8 bit mode.

Subsampling/AOI

The frame rate can be increased by subsampling and/or using an AOI.

The minimum AOI height of 2 pixels is only supported in RAW format.

If the FPN correction is activated, fast changes of AOI position are only possible with a step width of 16 px in X direction.

Binning

Only monochrome sensors support binning.

Overlapping the trigger is not possible in combination with vertical binning. Therefore, either the maximum exposure time or with constant exposure the maximum frame rate is reduced.

The frame rate does not increase if the horizontal resolution is reduced by binning.

Binning is not supported with the pixel clocks 320 or 316 MHz.

Binning is not supported in combination with HDR mode.

FPN (fixed pattern noise) correction

The FPN correction is enabled by default and reduces visible vertical lines in the image. These lines are caused by the sensor. They are factory calibrated using a complex process. The result is a more homogeneous image.

With maximum gain and gamma, the typical vertical and horizontal structures of the sensor becomes visible. This effect is not reduced by the FPN correction.

HDR mode

To use the HDR mode with color sensors, you must set a RAW format as color format. You should also disable the RGB gains and perform a manual color correction.

If the HDR mode is active, the gain settings have no effect.

The HDR mode cannot be used in combination with binning or IDS line scan ("AOI merge mode").

The settings of the HDR mode cannot be saved in the parameter file or in the camera's user memory.

IDS line scan ("AOI merge mode")

For color sensors, the IDS line scan can only be used with at least 2 lines.

USB 2.0 operation

If you operate the USB 3 uEye camera on a USB 2.0 port, you must activate the internal image memory.

GigE uEye cameras

If very small AOIs are used with very high frame rates and maximum pixel clock, the camera memory may overflow after some images.

Multi AOI

The sensor supports up to 8 AOIs (horizontal x vertical: 4 x 2 or 2 x 4).

The settings of the multi AOI cannot be saved in the parameter file or in the camera.

Multi AOI and black level reference cannot be used simultaneously.

Multi AOI: UI-313xLE

The UI-313xLE model supports up to 4 Multi-AOIs (2 x 2) in multi AOI.
